On starting my computer after a five hour shutdown and for approximately 10 minutes, I observed activity on the hard drive. A check with process explorer revealed statemgr.exe was the 'culprit'. When it stopped I checked System Restore and found no points created for today.

What would occupy statemgr.exe for this period on startup?

Thanks.

Ben.

That's great for such an *oldish* system.

If it did, now undo the restore and confirm the shortcut has returned to your desktop.

If all of this works, you're OK.

Curious: was there anything else active when you checked Process Explorer?

SR usually runs only when the system is idle. It may be possible that Process Explorer or other running applications may have stalled statemgr.exe and finally forced it to stop while waiting for that idle moment necessary to create a fresh restore point.

Just my thoughts on that.

P.S.
Sorry if any of the above suggestions are too obvious for you but they may be useful for other people reading this.

Hello Zee,

I made that check and it worked perfectly.

I do have, and for many weeks have had, Resource Meter and Motherboard Monitor loading at Startup.

There were no other unusual items showing on Process Explorer which I invoked after waiting (doing nothing) for 5mins after startup.

I will try another Shutdown and see what happens.

Ben.

Hello Zee,

I will let two gifs tell of an unremarkable startup.

Cheers,

Ben.
