I want to compare two old registry cabs (the ones containtd in C:\WINDOWS\SYSBCKUP) to see the differences happened. There is a way to convert the cabs in plain text so that I can then use windiff?

I think Gibbo 2 will have to do that, as he opened the thread. I tried it and all I could do was unsubscribe. Being fairly new to this forum I may not have performed the right steps and computers insist on that.

I went to those links and found that this only applies to Win2000 and up.. No help for those of us who are using 95, 98, or ME. Or did I miss something?

Goku,
Thanks for the links I will make them favorites in IE and bookmark them in FireFox. They might come in handy in the future. I solved the problem but I am not sure what did the trick. I did a Scandisk, Defrag and then ran a new registry cleaner called Easy Cleaner. The registry cleaner picked up a lot of bad entries and I deleted them all. Shutdown, booted up and it is working good now, except it is still a little slow. By the way Easy Cleaner is on of the best registry cleaners that I tried. Thanks to everyone who replied to this thread. Great bunch of people here.
