Hey, I just got a new motherboard for my computer but am still using my old hard disc which has Windows 98 installed, however none of the disc drives are detected anymore so there is no way to get drivers onto the computer (not even the floppy drive or USB's are working) ... can anyone help?!

Many thanks,

Matt

Yeh the computer starts up like it always has, if you use regular stat up it starts trying to find drivers but keeps asking for discs and tries to connect to the internet and then stalls, in safe mode it runs fine though.

In my computer the only thing that shows up is the c drive though.

In device manager it still displays all the drive names so i guess it knows they are there ... i just don't have any way of getting drivers onto the computer to make them usable!

HI!

If the Motherboard you bought is really new like mine D946GZ Intel then it will not allow you to install windows 98, mine even does not allow to install simple windows XP That is the problem that you are facing.

So first check the manual that the OS is supported or not.

What's happening on boot? Is the PC hanging right after the memory test? It can't be booting into Windows and saying there are no drives, is it?

Can you get into the CMOS setup and checked whether the floppy and disk drives have been detected.

BTW, I have put a hard drives with a loaded win98 OS into PC's with a different type motherboard. So what you're doing is possible, but the PC will go nuts asking for all new drivers. Plus you never know if the old drivers hanging in the registry are getting in the way. Clean installs are best.
