Hi:

I'm running an old computer with win98SE on same. Here's my problem:

I have a Western Digital drive with the operating system on same. It's on the master cable
with the jumper on cable select.

I'm trying to add a Seagate 160GB drive as added storage. I connected the
Seagate to the slave cable with the jumper also set on cable select. The system will
boot up, but the Seagate is NOT recognized.

Instructions with the Seagate drive said, if installed as slave, set the
jumper to cable select.

Another odd problem, with the above setting, a "D" drive shows up
in my computer. When I click the icon, it says drive is not accessible.

I'm using the old 40 connectors.

Thanks for any help.

98 will never recognize a drive that large. Even the first version of XP couldn't do it.

If your BIOS is not too old to correctly recognize the drive, try partitioning it into small partitions before installing, but your chances are small that it will be usable.

Easiest just to get a drive smaller than 32 GB and use that, if your board supports one that large..
