I am having problems with M/S Works Word Processor, which I did not have with the programme on XP.
1. I use A5 a lot for my work. I used to be able to put in a couple of extra lines at the bottom to avoid going on to another page. All I had to do was go to Page setup and reduce the lower margin to 1.5 cm, the font and sheet size remaining the same. This does not seem to work on my Vista.
2. I used to be able to get a dotted line on the outline of the print area and Headers which I found very useful. I cannot remember how I got these. Can anyone get me there?
3. Is it no longer posssible to have a the line number showing while making up a document?
Allan.

I would say that Microsoft Works, is a less featured and less expensive option than Microsoft Office. Office is like Works but on steroids, got more bells and whistles.

I have used Open Office Calc spreadsheet for some time, so in view of all the above, I have for the past few days been using Open Ofice Writer for word processing. I have to say that it does everything that I require for composing documents. Why should I spend money on an expensive WP programme? The only drawback is compatibility. I have to send documents as attachments to colleagues fairly frequently. They cannot open the attachments unless I send them in rtf, which means some loss of format. There is, of course, the list of programmes under Save As, but can any of them allow me to send documents that will open in M/S Word without loss of format? I do not do mean any fancy formatting, but, for example, Headers, Footers in different font and centred. Is there anyone who uses Open Office and has had experience of these problems? I have not found it easy to get help from Open Office Users. There are so many e-mails and so technical, I cannot wade through them. Allan.

Thank you for this. However, I need more help as this is very important for my work. I need to get two extra lines on my A5 without changing font or line space, and I would like to have my beloved dotted lines back. Is there anyone out there who can help. Allan.

Thank you for your help. I cannot find Print Lay-out View. I can find Print Preview under File, but nothing like Page Lay-out Ribbon. I cannot find an Office button anywhere. I have noticed that when I save, the file extension is .wps, not .doc. Does this have anything to do with it? Allan.

MS Works is compatible with Vista as per the following link.
https://winqual.microsoft.com/member...swithlist.aspx
Its kinda strange that the operating system has any effect on Works as a stand alone word processor but I guess anything can happen!
Sorry I can't be of any more help to you!
