I deal with a number of reports relating to people and percentages. Currently, I go in by hand to edit the color of a cell such that:

Red= 0-49%
Yellow= 50-69%
Green= 70-100%

I am wondering if I could create a macro somehow to automatically assign a color to a cell once I have input the % (from a simple formula such as =C17/D17).

I have done some searching online, but as I don't have much experience with Excel, the most useful page I could find is entirely useless! ( http://www.cpearson.com/Excel/colors.htm is one page from this site).

Thanks for any help!

And I take it that conditional formatting is the "Fill background" to the certain color?

Yes you can use a Visual Basic Macro to do that. Or you could probably do it with Conditional Formatting.

Did you go in to Main Menu>Format Conditional Format and try out the fromula and setting of the Cell Patterns using the Format button?

Like OBP already stated, conditional formatting is your easiest and best option.
