You can download the PowerPoint viewer from Microsoft free of charge and this will allow you to view .PPS files. Please note that you will not be able to edit or modify these files in any way - for that you will need the full version of PowerPoint.

This link shoudl give you what you need:

http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/Default.aspx

Hope this helps.

Of course, luna, you should get a licensed copy for yourself. However, if it is only certain people that send them to you, ask them to do a "pack and go" instead of sending you the PPS file.

Here is just the beginning of what the Help file says about it in PowerPoint 2000:

Learn about packing up a presentation for use on another computer
When you want to run a slide show on another computer, you can use the Pack and Go Wizard to pack your presentation. The wizard packs all the files and fonts used in the presentation together on a disk or network location. When you intend to run your show on a computer that doesn't have Microsoft PowerPoint installed, you have the option of including the PowerPoint Viewer. You can include linked files as part of your package, and if you use TrueType fonts you can include them as well. If you make changes to your presentation after you use the Pack and Go Wizard, just run the wizard again to update the package.

After you pack the presentation, you can unpack the presentation to run on another computer.

I don't know of any other program that would open PPS files , which are Power Point Slideshow files. Ask around the office or school for someone with the first CD of Office and you can get it form there.
