I got windows private folder where you have a password to unlock it and then use whatever folders you have in it. I have used it many times. No problems. Now I open it and I have some word documents in it and when I try to open any of them a box comes up with the document in it and it looks like it is encrypted. the box says file conversion and it wants me to select the encoding that makes my document readable. In the fist place I didn't encode it and have used the same word docs before and they were not encoded. I tried to click on other items in the box but it doesnot unincrypt them. there are thins like
windows default
DOS
other
and a box on the right hand side that gives choices like Eurapean,
and different countries etc if you just click ok it brings it up in word and it looks like this
T1R?[?e/'Z ~k r{-?~Rd1_?OM1>?br />z?YwQEs" T ^? )6qG? ^ % ?;X?g???Y9?z}?*?gt;?C@q"#U Jo?(^?Ff:
anyone no what this is or how it got there?
If I open any word docs that are not in the private folder they open just fine and can read them normally nothing out of the ordinary. just the ones in this private folder of mine, and they were not that way the last time I looked at them which was probably a week ago or so

Don't really know ... just thought the info might help.
I was going to play with PF but it looked like it was only allowed on my desktop ..
and I didn't want it out in the open for all to see.
Have you tried to drag the contents out of the PF ??
Maybe someone who knows will stop in and clear this up.

So are you saying this is a known problem, I see alot of businesses on that site not happy with private folder but I don't see where it said home users were having this problem, If I missed it please let me know, otherwise is there a way to get my info back or I have to just call it a loss?? I had some important stuff in thnose folders I guess I probably just learned a good lesson?? or is there a way to get it back?
