This is the second computer I have experienced this issue on... I am not sure what setting I may have unknowinlgy enabled to create this fiasco.. hopefully you all have an opinion.

All of the sudden, my backspace key will not delete text that I have highlighted in Word 2002. My delete key will, but my backspace key won't.... this is a pain in the rear since it takes a lot more effort to use to use the delete key than the backspace key, and using backspace has been ingrained in me since childhood.

I did not change any settings or turn on any features (unless it was unknowingly)... I was not messing with options or settings recently at all, as well. I am completely stumped as to how this happens... as mentioned before, it is the second computer to do this to me.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Tools> Options> Edit tab> check: Typing replaces selection

And I should also mention that the backspace key works fine when deleting text regularly to the left of the cursor placement... it only fails to delete a highlighted block of text.
