I recently installed a pinnacle tv capture device. Along with the bundle came microsoft SQL server version 8.00.760.

I would like to Know what that program specifically does, once pinnacle tv seems to work fine without it being resident in memory (it consumes about 20 Mb of my memory).

I would like to learn about the program so that I could decide wether to definitely disable it at Windows startup or not...

I've allready tryed the tv an radio tuner without sql. It works fine. Im going to try the database now. You see, the application is only instaled since yesterday. As it is not a unnecessary component for the device to work, I realy dont see the need of wasting the resources it steals from my system memory.

Time will tell me more about the real necessity of sql with the pinnacle device.

Thanks a lot...

MS SQL is a program to store & retrieve all sorts of data in a database structure.
Usually it is used in a network environment & not for capturing tv images.
Maybe the database part is needed for the capturing software but MS SQL is a little bit heavy for doing that job while SQL lite could do the same job I think.

I cannot see any harm in turning of the MS SQL part (not uninstall) except that maybe already stored data will not be accessible anymore.
If you dont uninstall MS SQL but just start or stop the services related to MS SQL , you can do that without harm.
