running under windows 2000 operating system. Plugged in a jump drive and it doesn't work. helppppppppppppp

I take it that this is a usb device. What does device manager show in regard to usb? Are there any yellow marks next to any device?

device manager shows 4 usb ports and there is no yellow marks next to any device
under USB controllers:
2 SIS 7001 to USN open host controller and 2 USB root hub
it works with jump driver with 256 mb but not with 512mb
package says just to plug the driver for windows 2000
