Greetings,

Searched the forum for help about reinstall of Windows 2000 Pro and a few follow up questions.

I have a sealed Dell OEM OS cd (sp1) that came with my refurbished Dell purchased on e-bay.

To reinstall I should:

1) change the bios to boot from CD
2) repair the OS first then reinstall
3) load drivers- how do I do this? I have a cd with the appropriate drivers that the seller sent me.
4) re-install my programs

Anything I am missing?

Questions:

1) Is there a way to get the SP updates on a CD from Dell so I don't have to do a bizillion hotfixes?

2) One post mentioned that on DElls the OEM OS serial number is linked to the Bios. The OEM OS I have is sealed so I would expect that it is not the original serial number as is installed. Am I going to have problems with this?

3) I was going to install my internet security suite before going to the web for the OS updates. Any thoughts on that?

Any words of wisdom before I perform my first reinstall ?

Thanks for your help in advance!!

Regards,
Marc

I have gone to the Microsoft Update website, and located a link that requests Microsoft to ship you a Service Pack CD for no charge. It simply takes about a month to get it. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...s/default.mspx fill out the form.

DO NOT install any internet security suites until you have all the latest updates installed.
