I have a number of Windows XP computers in the house, all on wireless connection which seems to be straightforward (for example using Lynksys.

I'm trying to connect one of my Linksys wireless adaptors to another computer that runs Windows 2000 and I can't connect!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is curently no firewall, antivirus sofware, etc. on it that potentially prevent internet access ("newly" refurbished computer from Computer Renaissance).

Any ideas as to what I might need to do specifically with regards Windows 2000???

"... if one can't get on the internet....... "

Good point! I didn't state it very well at all, but was really just wondering about Service Pack level, and if any that you don't have included wireless fixes. I think I saw somewhere that the latest SP is SP4, but I don't know anything else about them.

Here's hoping that it's just a driver update problem. Where are all the knowledgeable Win 2k networking folks?

yes it has a scan feature. I suppose I could turn off/on my main router to see if that helps but have never had this issue before though all my other computers on the wireless system use XP. No special encrytion, etc. that I know of. My guess is the solution is something simple.
Thanks again,
pete

You said that you are unable to "connect one of my Linksys wireless adaptors to another computer." I doubt that you meant to say that, but if you did, is it a PCI card, PCMCIA card or USB wireless adapter? And what, specifically, is preventing the connection?

Love my life!!

If Linksys had to fix the driver for Win 2k after it had been burned to your CD, you would need to get the latest driver from their web site. I have no idea if this is the case, but if I had a device not working, I'd do the three things I mentioned in post #8.

wireless USB adaptor. I took the adaptor off one computer and put it on the other to see if I could connect. The adaptor driver loads, the adaptor power light is fine, but the wireless connection is unable to be made to my main router. it pick it up in a scan and connect.

Adapter driver on CD comes with the USB adaptor. This set up works fine on other computers with the XP but if in ADDITION to the driver on the CD if you think Win2K has other needs I can look into that.
