View products that this article applies to.
Article ID : 233163
Last Review : October 30, 2006
Revision : 3.1
This article was previously published under Q233163
SUMMARY
Specific Via Universal Serial Bus (USB) controller chip sets are not supported in Windows 2000. The following model numbers are affected: • VT83C572

• VT82C586

MORE INFORMATION
These chip sets are unsupported because of problems in the input/output (I/O) port aliasing that can only be resolved in the chips themselves.

For additional information, or to inquire about the availability of a software update that corrects this issue, please contact Via.

NOTE: Using an unsupported workaround for this issue could possibly cause system instability or data loss.

YEEEEEEEEEEESSSSS
It is now working, I hooked her new printer up it is usb and it is working good now. It was what Brite 750 said, went to that site and did the properties and the update driver and it took me to the unsupported usb controller and I click on the usb controller tech thing and it got them working. I thank you so very much Brite and you to brjdriver for working on this so long with me. It always feels good when you work on something this long and then it finally works. I thank you both again. I will close this thread.

I will do that now
wanted to tell you if it makes a difference.
that program everesthome
says the motherboard is a SOYO 5EMA+1.0
AND THE CHIPSET SAYS IT IS ETE Q6629

HOWEVER
the above stuff it says under motherboard

If I look under computer in everest it says the motherboard chipset is VIA VT82C598 APOLLO MVP3

Does that tell you anymore?

I will see about if it says to update the driver I have done that before I will get back to you in a minute

Ok, I may have found your usb driver. There is not much information about a board that old. Here is a link to via's site and they claim that this is the usb driver. I would decompress the file and then point windows device manager at the location where you unzipped it. The file does have a setup.exe, however I would first try a manual install. This way if it is not the correct one, you can stop the install; you may not have that option when using setup.exe.
Link for usb driver

When you go to device manageer and right click on the + sign by USB and when the unsopported usb comes up I right click on that and then click properties cause thats usually where you will see the driver and can click update.

It says there is no driver installed for this device
