(Cross-posted in Windows Vista)

I got a new Toshiba Notebook which came with Vista Home Premium installed on it.

After doing a bit of research, I found out how to move my Accounts and Messages from Outlook Express on my old machine. Everything appeared to be fine, but then strange things started to happen:
  1. First, the folders don't appear in the left-hand window. I have about 50 different folders, some of them nested, but only "Inbox" shows up, and when I select that, the right-hand window says, "There are no items in this view despite the fact that the Inbox folder shows 33 unread messages.
  2. When I select "Local Folders" all of the folders show up in the right hand window.
  3. When I double click on any of them, they appear in the left window, but again, no messages.
  4. When I try to do a "Find" and select "Browse" to designate the folder, the only option that appears is "Windows Mail."

Clearly something had become corrupted. I'd be happy at this point to just start over from scratch, but I'm not sure how to do this or which files to delete to restore the program to its initial state.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Lucas,

I did some more research when this happened and found out that it was the preinstalled Anti-Virus software that was causing all the problems.

I think it was McAffee. As soon as I activated it, the problems began happening. When I removed it everything worked.

I was going to let Toshiba know that the software they pre-loaded screwed up a built-in Vista application, but, frankly, I've just been too busy to bother.

Since then, the only problem I've has with Windows Mail is that sometimes the Search feature doesn't work, but that's almost always when I have LOTS of stuff opened - I'm guessing it's a memory issue.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help! Importing mail kept on failing, besides that the screen started making noise. So we brought the notebook back to the shop and are looking for an other one.

Greetings,
Lucas

Hi,

I have just bought a Toshiba notebook (coincidence?) and have similar problems in Windows Mail after importing mail from Outlook Express 6. I have copied the folder with dbx-files, disabled read-only, imported via menu in Windows Mail.

When moving/deleting a folder the changes are not visible in the folderlist. Only after closing Windows Mail and starting it again. After restarting Windows Mail the content of the folders is gone! I only get the message "Folder cannot be displayed" (or something similar, notebook is not available to me right now) in the Preview Pane

Have you had any luck so far? Or does anybody else have a solution?

TAI!
Lucas
