I just got a DVD-CDRom player by Toshiba.  Included with this was a video decoder card with no explainations
on what it was or who made it.  It has the two letters  CE on the pci board and the only other identifing info is on one of the chips.  It has the following on it.
Video Decoder
Bt
Bt848AKPF
BF5640 2 9807
Korea

I am trying to get a driver for this card and info on the connection between the DVD player and the card.  If you can help I would greatly appeciate it.

Thanks,

Inventit

I have seen the BT848AKPF used in older DOS & Win NT 4 systems for video, but I have not found drivers for 2k or XP.   Would you be interested in selling the board ?

The card you have is most likely a Cinemaster decoder.  The chip information didn't help me too much.

Depending on the system that you have you may not need the DVD decoder card.  If your computer is a 400MHz or higher with >64MB (Win98), or >128MB (Win2k, ME, XP), then you can probably install a DVD player program that will handle the decoding.

As far as the connections go, the DVD player will be able to connect to the same cable that your existing CDROM drive is on.  The decoder cards will usually require you use a four pin molex to molex cable inbetween the AUX jack on your sound card and the decoder, it will also usually have a connector that will run from the card to the feature connector on your video card (if present).

By far the easiest way to get your system playing DVD is to just install the DVD drive in place of, or in addition too your existing CDROM drive.  Then install a DVD player program like Xing DVD, Power DVD, Cinemaster, or WinDVD.  Some DVD's will even include a player on the dvd called PCFriendly.

If you need more information on the installation procedure just reply back to this post.

Thanks,

Mike
