a friend asked me if I could recover her pics off of a n old computre running windows 95. she says her computer will not turn on anymore. push the power button, makes some niose, but screen will not light up. tried different monitor. all my computers run xp. can anyone tell me if or how I could get pics off old harddrive?

Unless you are adept at getting to the innards of your computer (static electricity is not a computers friend!) I would suggest a USB hard drive case and put your friends old hard drive in it. It should work if the hard drive isn't what failed.

If the drive is still good, you could try putting the Windows 95 hard drive in another PC as a slave and copy the picture files off.

It looks to me like the hard drive crapped out. When you push the power button and hear grinding or clicking noises and nothing happens, it's a good bet that's the problem.
