A friend called me last week with a computer problem and asked me to look at it. I picked it up and found that it is one of the old windows 2000 essential student computers. It's in the very small desk top st charles flex case. Anyway, it only had 128 MB SDRAM in it and only 127 showing on my computer. I immediately thought it to be the memory since she was trying to run a lot of things that take memory, ie logitech camera, and all the stuff that goes with it, and numerous programs. A relative sent it to her when they got a new one and left all their stuff on it too. Anyway, I ordered a 256 stick of RAM and installed it yesterday. It is doing no better. I tried to hook it up to my DSL to see if I could send a HJT log, but could get online and then it would freeze. Thought it might be the mouse, so got another one and it does the same. There is also a clicking noise somewhere near the heatsink. The rear USB ports quit working too. Since you have to use a USB mouse and keyboard for it, I put them on the front 2 ports and they work there. She doesn't have an antivirus program on it, so was going to put AVG 7.5 on it and run a scan, but everytime I try to manually start it by going into My Computer, because it won't auto start, it freezes up. I think it is about shot!! What other opinions does anyone have. I would hate to put much money into it. She doesn't have much to spend anyway. She is running Windows ME, by the way. Thanks for any and all opinions.
