Hello All!

My husband has an EMachine with Windows 98 on it. Trying to go wireless, the installation of the PCI card required for me to install the Windows 98 CD. The computer was given to us, but no software. I have a disk for Windows 98SE for computers without Windows installed. Was told to reformat the C drive. Did that! When trying to install Windows 98SE, I get it to load 100% and then get "bootsector write virus: Contiune (Y/N)". It won't let me go beyond that. I've read the other forums, but they don't help, or I don't understand exactly what to do. I can't F8 to get to the BIOS because I read on one of the forums that you can disable the virus warning there. Can anyone give me some guidance on what to do from here? I'm at a loss. I'd very much appreciate it and if I get this up and running, I swear I won't touch it again. Thanks!

Laura

Can this be done from a CD rather than a floppy? My floppy drive doesn't work and I don't have a need to replace it. I burn most my stuff from the CD rom.

I have no idea. All it is is a black box with "BootSector Write Virus!! Contiune (Y/N)" That is it. If I press Y or the N it doesn't do anything.

Depends on the computer.

Sometimes it shows on the screen for a key to press to go into setup.
Common ones are DEL or F2

From the first post it doesn't appear to - "It won't let me go beyond that."

Yes, I have tried to select both Y and N at the bootsector virus warning. It just sits there. I read in another post to get into the BIOS and have turn that warning off, but I can't get into that either.

Hitting F8 does nothing for me. What gets you to the BIOS?

Hello Dolphin

Obtain a fresh 98SE boot disk from www.bootdisk.com (get the OEM with ramdrive version) then have a look here.
I sounds to me like your original floppy is corrupt as mentioned in the link so get a new one, wipe the drive using Fdisk and then install 98SE.
