It might be fun to hunt for the latter but it's a nightmare to find the former. I had a scare that I would have to fdisk my system and never did that before. I was further concerned because I was told that Windows puts drivers all over the place, drivers don't always have recognizable names and further, you don't even know that some exist until you find things not working.

Does anyone have a way of locating all the drivers on the system and finding what they are associated with? I know many have .drv extentions but I'm assuming some don't.

When I first got this computer years ago, all I assumed was that a driver was someone behind the wheel. I had no idea that these files were floating all over my computer and if I reinstalled Windows without them, all I would have is a heavy doorstop.

Obviously, for the next computer I buy, I will be vigilant and record this data, but my present computer is a hodge-podge A-Open system that was put together by a company who went out of business. It works fine but if something goes haywire, I'll need to know to locate the drivers on the present system.

Thanks,

Mark

The easiest thing to do is identify your various hardware, ie. video card, printer, sound card, etc. and gather up all the discs that came with them. Windows will install any system drivers it needs.
