U can change alot of the performance options, the way things look etc in control panel > performance information and tools > performance options, the computer normally selects the performance options automatically based on your computers graphics capabilities / processor and ram etc, u may be able to still change some at the possible expense of system performance, "windows aero" mode is not available on windows home basic.
