What operating system is installed on it now? What brand is it? (Toshiba, IBM, etc)

By "Admin" do you mean a domain logon?

By the way, I am closing the second thread you started for this issue, we allow only one thread per problem.

It has basically the same info as this one, and no replies.

Hi,
I'll not post that information in a public forum, but I can give you some links in an email, watch for it. Can't say as I have tried any of the ideas but you never know, they might work for you.

If you try messing with the Admin rights on your computer, I can almost guarantee you will end up in a big
mess.
There are different types of Administrator accounts, as well as several types of Users, Power User,
and Guest account. The security is flexible and no telling what those are and I don't think you will gain access
to anyplace that will let you change things, if that IT department was good.

Just reading about user accounts and restrictions always gives me a huge headache!

The information is freely available on the Net, as is probably way too much information, but that's the way the world runs!

If I were you, I would purchase an OEM (less expensive type of XP, but it is married to that computer forever) or Retail version (movable but still used on only one machine at a time as activated) of XP either Pro or Home Edition and start all over nice and clean.

Home Edition OEM, which is a full version as that is the only way you can do it, would run you about $75-85 on a good day at quite a few software stores online.

I strongly advise you to try that way!

Hi and welcome. I'm wondering if XP will work on it?

hi, So why can't you simply format the drive and install XP?

Is booting from the CD drive what is stopping you?

I think what you may mean is the Supervisor password, to enter the system Setup (CMOS or BIOS) pages to change settings?

Do you get asked for a Supervisor password when it starts up?

My system is a Dell inspiron 8200 running windows 2000.

By admin I mean the administrator login to enable me to change setups etc.

Sorry about the doubling up of requests I clicked twice
