SP2 installation freezes while checking Product Key (Microsoft Windows XP->System issue)
========================
Issue: SP2 installation freezes while checking Product Key
========================

Based on the current status, this issue was caused by a corrupted Product Key file. I suggest we perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.

Step 1: Rename related files
=====================
1. Click "Start", go to "Run", type in "cmd.exe" and click "OK".
2. Then type "cd /d %windir%\inf" (without quotation marks) and make sure we are in that directory.
3. Then type "ren oem*.inf oem*.old" (without quotation marks). After doing so, the system will return to the command prompt after displaying an error (We can ignore this).
4. Then type "ren oem*.pnf oem*.old1" (without quotation marks). After doing so, the system will return to the command prompt after displaying an error (We can ignore this)
5. After that, please click Start -> Run -> Type type "%windir%\inf" (without quotation marks) and you will see the files in the folder.
6. Then find the filename "INFCACHE.1". Please right-click the file "INFCACHE.1" and choose "Copy", then we can right-click on the blank of the Desktop and choose "Paste" to back up the file on the Desktop. Now we can delete the INFCACHE.1 file from the folder c:\windows\inf.

After performing the above steps, we can refer to the following to download and install Windows XP SP2.

Step 2: Manually extract the installation package to install SP2:
===============================================
Note: I assume that you have saved the WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe file to C:\. If you do not have it saved in C:\, I recommend we download Windows XP SP2 from our website from the link below and save the file WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe file to C:\.

1. Restart the computer and keep pressing the F8 key until the Windows Startup menu appears.
2. Choose Safe Mode, and press Enter.
3. Click Start and click Run.
4. In the Open box, type "C:\WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe /X" (without quotation marks) and press Enter.
5. Type "C:\SP2" in the "Choose Directory For Extracted Files" box.
6. Please go to the "C:\SP2\Update" folder.
7. Double-click update.exe to install SP2.

Can SP2 be installed now?
